Beach Cottage With Gray Shingle Siding

Situated on a corner lot in Jamestown, R.I., this summer home pays homage to the cottages that once dotted the coastline with a wide porch and gray shingle siding. The interior is idyllic, too, thanks to powder blue walls, cozy spaces and nautical-themed decor.

Jamestown, Rhode Island Beach Cottage Exterior

Designers wanted to create a traditional, shingle style summer home for the family in Jamestown, Rhode Island. Since the home sits on a rectangular, corner lot, they needed to address both sides of the street, so they added an oversized porch to the front of the home as a nod to the summer cottages that dotted the coastline at the turn of the century. To address the other side of the street, a smaller garage was built. This space adds storage to the home as well as adds a pleasant aesthetic to the home.

Beautiful, Quaint Summer Home

Nestled on a quaint, corner lot, this lovely summer home beckons guests with its pristine walkway and perfectly landscaped yard.

Cute Garage Gives the Home Storage Space and Curb Appeal

The added garage adds visual interest to the home's corner lot, giving the structure personality from every side of the street. In addition to the aesthetic aspect of the construction, the garage gives the home storage for cars, bicycles, kayaks and other summer gear.

Steps Allow Access to Front Porch from Driveway

On one side of the home, steps provide access from the driveway to the front porch and front door.

Walkway Leads from Garage to Main House

As guests walk from the detached garage to the home's side entrance, a covered walkway with a pitched roof leads into the home and draws the eye through the walkway and into the home's main spaces.

Beach Themed Mudroom at Rhode Island Beach Cottage

Designers wanted to help keep the homeowners organized, so they designed a beach themed mudroom. The space has storage for shoes and beach bags, as well as racks for towels and swim suits so that all of the sand and water from a trip to the beach stays in this space instead of getting tracked through the rest of the house.

Blue Beach Cottage Foyer

When guests come through the home's front door, they are greeted by a calming, light blue foyer that mirrors the peaceful surroundings of the home. Closets on either side of the entryway add storage to the space, providing easy access to coats and shoes, while a bench and work of art are elegantly framed by the doorway of the foyer, creating a focal point in the space.

Bench Adds Seating, Storage and Warm Color to the Base of the Stairs

At the base of the stairs, designers added a bench that adds seating and hidden storage to the space. The navy cushions complement the soothing blue tones of the walls and add a bit of warm color to this space.

Modern, Open Concept Living Spaces Create Functional Entertainment Space in Beach Cottage

Designers wanted to update the design of this Rhode Island beach home, so they created an open concept living space between the kitchen, dining room and living room. The open concept design enhances the entertainment aspect of the home and increases the flow and functionality between these spaces while allowing for a continuous design throughout the elegant beach cottage.

Green and Blue Tile Backsplash in Light and Warm Beach Cottage Kitchen

To maintain the beachy feel throughout the home, designers used muted blues and greens that can be found in the nature surrounding the home. In the kitchen, these colors were added to the backsplash and the barstools so as to add color without overwhelming the space. White cabinetry and a custom, curved peninsula keeps the space feeling light and open, while natural light contributes to the warm, bright feel.

Open Concept Home Design Creates Functional Entertaining Space

Designers used the open concept layout to extend the home's living space. From the kitchen, a seamless transition to the dining area makes bringing food to guests simple and easy. Beyond the kitchen, sliding glass doors allow access to the stone patio beyond. This space extends the home's entertaining space.

Nautical Themed Bathroom

Designers wanted to stick with the nautical theme throughout the home's spaces, so designers chose a navy wallpaper with a sailboat pattern for the upper portion of the walls in the space. To help keep the space from being overwhelmed by the dark, navy color, white paneling was added to the bottom of the walls and carried through to the space's vanity. A wood countertop and white sink and warmth and continuity to the design while it is finished off with a light gray, penny round tile floor that adds a touch of flair.

Simple and Elegant Master Bathroom Vanity

In the master bathroom, designers kept the design simple and quaint. To accomplish this, designers installed a half wall of wainscoting to complement the vanity cabinet, keeping the space light and bright. A gray and white tile floor adds a hint of luxury to the space, while the gray vanity countertop anchors it all.

Stylish Single Stall Shower in Master Bathroom

A single stall shower in the master bathroom adds stylish functionality without taking up too much room in the space.

Limestone Steps Lead from Side Yard to Outdoor Patio

A pair of limestone steps leads from the home's side yard onto the home's secluded patio where a dining table gives the homeowners a great place for dining al fresco.

Appealing Side Patio

Since the home is situated on a corner lot, designers wanted to make the structure appealing from any angle, so they added a cozy side patio with fluffy landscaping and a stone retaining wall for aesthetics and privacy.

Front Porch Lighting Creates a Warm, Inviting Space

At night, the home's beautiful outdoor lighting creates a warm, inviting feel that is perfect for relaxing on the front porch in the cool evening air.

Front Porch Lights Make Home Feel Welcoming

At night, the outdoor lights highlight the home's huge front porch and create a welcoming feeling, even in the darkness.
