About the House
“We were drawn to our home’s classic good looks (circa 1939). With its stately stone exterior, dentil molding, and elegant entry, it reminds us of a country manor in Ireland," say homeowners Jen and Steve Schooff.
The couple kept the trees that stood on either side of the house when they bought it in 2019 and gave the rest of the yard a cleaner style. Hydrangea shrubs frame the door alongside rounded boxwood. Hosta, phlox and daylily fill out the bed on the right. And check out the lannon stone exterior. Named after William Lannon, who opened a local rock quarry in the 1800s, this multitone stone is popular in the area.

About the House
“With its tall peaks and arched window and door, our (2,566 sq. ft.) French country–style home is unlike anything in the neighborhood," say homeowners Vicki and Don Wade. "There’s nothing better than swinging open the windows to let a breeze in.”
The yard got a major overhaul after the couple bought the home in 1978. The Wades broke up a rock garden and placed boulders neatly around the beds. Boxwood follow the curve of the path for a formal look, while two types of phlox offer color, and snow-in-summer and stringy stonecrop bring texture.

About the House
“This is the only house we’ve ever owned — we were attracted to its historic Tudor details (circa 1929)," say homeowners Carlie and Tom Jaeckels. "The cedar shake siding and unexpected molding around the door are cool twists.”
A simple grouping of plants in the yard keeps the focus on the home’s architecture (1,600 sq. ft.). The Happy Jack clematis growing on the railing blooms purple flowers in the summer, and pink begonias and polka dot plants brighten up the bed on the right. That Japanese maple is Carlie’s favorite — the red looks gorgeous with the blue. The couple removed an overgrown yew tree after they bought the home in 2003. Now, the double gable roofline shines.

About the House
“Our 1,850 sq. ft. Colonial was off-white with red shutters when we bought the home in 2011. Painting the aluminum siding and scallop trim gray enhanced the brick’s color, and we love how the landscaping turned out," say homeowners Vanessa and Tyson Mueller.
Bright green Japanese forest grass stands out in front of the boxwood. “We’re in the landscaping business, so it was our top priority,” says Vanessa. “Having a couple kinds of hostas brings interest and depth to the yard. They’re almost better than flowers!”
