Though this outdoor living room is brand new, brick columns and trim help it feel cohesive with the existing landscape. Brick pavers complement the design and cut through a lush little garden.

Though it's located on one of the best streets in La Jolla, Calif., the back of this home was once overrun with myoporum and acacias that blocked views of the canyon and ocean. To help reclaim the rear garden, the Torrey Pines Landscape Company cleared away the plants and added a modern living and entertaining space beneath the pergola.

Brick steps lead to the lower lawn, where the landscape architects created an outdoor living room complete with a bar, barbeque, two armchairs and fire pit. From here, the owners can sit back, relax and watch the sun set over the Pacific.

For maximum visibility, the Torrey Pine team installed landscape lights along the concrete walkway. With a pendant light hanging from the pergola and a sleek fire pit to the left, this outdoor space practically glows when the sun sets.
