The Family

When Betsy and Ryan Chapman started shopping for stuff to decorate their Anna Maria Island, FL, house, they had a design epiphany. “After one productive night on Pinterest, we realized practically everything we picked had pineapples on it!” says Betsy.

To expand their pattern possibilities and infuse their newly built 2,200-square-foot home with personality, they brought on designer Hannah Crowell. She helped them find punchy fabrics and wallpaper, ranging from giant tropical leaves to whimsical sea life. Then they layered in just-as-lively accents, like geometric pillows and colorful Moroccan rugs. “Each room evokes a beachy feeling in a different way,” says Betsy. “It makes our whole house fun and happy but not over-the-top themed.” (Pictured: Ryan and Betsy with Vivian, 6, and Bo, 3)

The House

The Chapmans were drawn to the home’s light blue color (try Delano Waters by Benjamin Moore) and great location. With the beach only a block away, it’s easy to pack the wagon and go.

Entryway

Here’s gorgeous proof that pattern shouldn’t be limited to walls and floors: this credenza from Deny Designs. “It’s one of our favorite things in the house because of how unexpected it is,” says Betsy. The coolest coatrack (it’s from Blu Dot) and a rug from Garnet Hill subtly pick up on the colors in the piece.

Living Room

Betsy started with a white slipcovered Pottery Barn sectional and a coffee table by Serena & Lily. Designer Hannah pepped them up with a vintage rug from the Etsy shop Atelier Boheme Maroc and vibrant pillows. The colors jump out against all the white. “I had the surfboard and palm tree photos framed in white for the same effect,” says Hannah.
