20 Ways to Add Fall Color to Your Rental

In order to celebrate one of our favorite seasons, we've come up with 20 easy, inexpensive ways to add fall color to every corner of your rental.

Embrace the Season

Let's set the scene: You're ready for fall and want to switch up your space with some warm, rich colors, but you live in a rental. You can still incorporate color. We share easy fall color ideas you can steal for every single room in your rental house or apartment.

Re-Style Your Coffee Table

Switch out the items on your coffee table, and create a homage to the fall season. Use small plants, a couple of colorful books, and even a rock tray. For our rock tray, we used a simple piece of wood to display colorful, fall-inspired rocks and stones.

Switch Out Pillows

One of the easiest ways to bring in quick fall color is to switch out existing sofa pillows. You can also do this in a family room, bedroom or anywhere else you want to rock a fall color palette.

Put a Sheepskin On It

It's easy to add coziness to any corner by simply adding a thick, (faux) sheepskin to a chair. Don't be surprised if your kitty takes over your new spot, though. Once the weather starts warming up in spring, store your sheepskin in a linen closet.

Opt For Leafy Branches

Flowers are always a good option, but we love leaves and flowering branches for fall. Here, we placed Eucalyptus in a deep purple vase for a pop of color. Best of all, it makes the whole space smell heavenly. Cherry and apple blossoms are also beautiful flowering branches that you can often find at farmers' markets during the season.

Bring Fall Color Into Your Kitchen

Display some colorful-striped oven mitts in your kitchen, and place rich-toned plates up against the counter. This 30-second trick adds lovely, fall color to any corner of your kitchen. Purchase plates at stores that allow you to buy single plates instead of a whole dish set, so you can mix and match and save money.

Pups Love Fall Color, Too

Switch out your pup's dog bed for a fall-friendly version, like this pretty blue bed. Go an extra step, and add a faux fur throw to the bed.

Make Your Bed Fall-Friendly

Seasonal decorating devotees likely already have different bedding for the seasons. Get in on the action, and place a fall-friendly blanket at the end of your bed to embrace the season. Switch out your shams and pillows, too. Make sure to choose a color that coordinates easily with your existing bedding for an easy transition.

Fall Towels, FTW

Hang rust orange towels in your bathroom to add a fall vibe. Colors like chocolate brown, deep purple, cranberry or navy blue will also work great.

Decor You Can Eat

Yep, even a simple bowl of deep red delicious apples is a great way to bring a pop of fall color indoors. Place a bowl of fruit on your kitchen table or counter, or place small bowls of cherries on your coffee table or entryway console.

Find a Fall Rug

Simply switching out the rug in your living room space for a more fall-friendly version has a huge impact on your space. Try this trick with any entryway rugs to help set the fall scene as soon as someone walks inside your place.

Get the Kids Involved

A colorful floor mat in your kid's bedroom is an easy way to honor fall without completely switching up the decor. Let your kids choose their own rug, so they feel like they are part of the decision-making process.

Set the Table

Keep a dinnerware set for each season. Store your seasonal dishware in a garage or attic when not in use, so they don't take up too much room in your kitchen cabinets.

Take Color Outside

Clean Up Your Act

With the changing colors of leaves and the crisp air, fall is a great time to honor Mother Nature. Grab spare branches and simply lean them against the wall in the corner of a bedroom. Get the kids involved, and have them help pick out the branches.

Group Candles Together

Create a lovely fall-centric grouping of candles on the mantel or coffee table. When choosing candles, think pine, lemon verbena, eucalyptus, rosemary mint or tobacco.
