European-Style Bathrooms

Explore the options for European-style bathrooms, and get ready to create a classical, stylish bath space in your home.

The guest bathroom has modern and clean lines and is a balance of light white glass tile and dark brown marble. Contrasts create drama and the bathroom feels warm yet crisp through its use of materials. Dimmers installed on the lighting allow you to create a softer light in the evening but still allow it to bright when shaving or applying makeup.

European-style bathrooms are typical of what's often referred to as "transitional design." This simply means that they combine elements from different eras and design movements, for an eclectic—but often very effective—style mix.

The mix of old and new in European-style bathrooms can be as bold as pairing midcentury modern, Scandinavian-style cabinets with rough-hewn materials like stone or natural wood for countertops or sink pedestals.

Conversely, for a more traditional "Old World" look, you may choose to build a bright and airy space around a grand centerpiece, like a classic claw-footed porcelain tub. Pedestal sinks in matching porcelain will give any European-style bathroom a timeless, historic feel.

In terms of accessories, natural wood, wrought iron and stone are great choices for towel racks or mirror frames. They can complement any transitional design, whether its emphasis is on the more modern or the more traditional.
