Carmen De La Paz is an interior designer, carpenter and decorative painter and the owner of De La Paz designs, a design and decorative-paint studio specializing in decorative finishes and custom-made furniture for both residential and commercial interior and exterior designs. A hands-on designer, Carmen does all of her own work and is handy with a compound miter saw, paintbrush, power drill, router or stone grinder.
With years of experience in the design industry and a true talent for colors and textures, Carmen has extensive knowledge in techniques ranging from Venetian plaster, wood graining, gilding, stenciling and furniture refinishing. Along with her vast knowledge in decorative paint, she has extensive carpentry and masonry skills to complement her design work. With design projects in Los Angeles, New York and her home town of Waukesha, Wis., her work can be found in multimillion-dollar homes and many businesses, from hair salons to restaurants.
In addition to private, commercial and residential design work, Carmen has worked as a production designer and art director in the television, film and theater industry. Her latest set design work can be seen in the film Jonna's Body, Please Hold, which has received national recognition on the film festival circuit.
Outside the realm of design, Carmen's artistic talents run deep. Her credits include a Broadway debut at New York City's Lincoln Center in the production, In the Summer House starring Diane Weist, Liev Schreiber and Frances Conroy. Not new to television, she has been seen on Discovery Español, Women's Entertainment Network, FOX, NBC, Telemundo and Magrack, where she is currently co-host to John Lithgow in Paloozaville. As a child, Carmen's creative energy found an outlet through music. She plays nine instruments and has an amazing vocal style.
She was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and grew up in Wisconsin. An alumni of Syracuse University, Carmen holds a B.F.A. in music theater. She also studied broadcast journalism though the UCLA Certificate program.
