Use a Musical Passion for Inspired Design
Every music lover should have a space of their own: a place to display their hobby, perfect their technique or simply sit and enjoy a melody. Whether using instruments as decor, pulling in artwork depicting favorite musicians or showcasing memorabilia, a room with music as its center is ready for creativity and originality.
Made for Music
Designed for jam sessions, impromptu performances and practice time, this Nashville basement at HGTV Smart Home 2014 is calling all musicians. A local chalk artist created the typography design that acts as a stage and decoration, and an arrangement of instruments is ready and waiting for the show to start.
Create a Space for Partying
This renovated barn is made for music, hanging out and parties. Grammy award-winning sound engineers worked on the open-concept living room to perfect the acoustics so that the space can host live music events. Their most clever idea: hiding the fabric sound panels beneath the reclaimed barnwood walls.
Incorporate Your Pastimes
Even if space is tight, make room for your favorite hobby. This loft blends multiple spaces together — a dining room, living area, loft bedroom and music room. Instead of storing away guitars and banjos in their cases, use them as decor for your wall, which also makes them super handy for a quick practice session.
Make the Most of Every Inch
Turn even the smallest nook into a stage. A tiny corner of this expansive multipurpose room is transformed into the ultimate music space, complete with instrument storage, amps and stools for playing. To give it the feel of a singer/songwriter night on stage, lush green curtains and a plush rug define the space.
Lean Into the Artistic
Music spaces should exude creativity. This basement is full of rich texture and colors, designed to be just as beautiful as inspirational. Sculptural fabric flowers, a mural of foliage and a wall of poetry bring the arts front and center to this original space.
Create a Kid’s Room of Dreams
What child wouldn’t love to have the room of a rock star? Just expect they might now have their own rider. This primary-colored bedroom not only has a stage for concerts, but also a fun mural depicting the kid’s favorite activities.
Embrace Your Passions
This unused basement space is now chic and dream-making. The family’s budding musician has a place to play, mix, record and generally make his aspirations a reality. Carpet tiles and sound-proof panels help with the quality of his music-making and keep the rest of the family from hearing any off-pitch notes.
Tune Into Style
Industrial and modern styles merge in this songwriter haven. Oversized letters spell out a musician’s constant reminder and make for an uber-cool decoration, while the open shelving below has storage for instruments and snacks — both essentials for any music lover.
Don’t Forget the Details
A room doesn’t have to be overloaded with musical paraphernalia to make a musician feel at home. A few pieces of art, including a striking closeup of a vintage microphone, add the just-right touch to this teen’s bedroom.
Use Instruments as Artwork
Not many people’s hobbies make incredible artwork, but that’s not true if you’re a guitarist – particularly if you’re collection is especially rad. A mix of acoustic and electric guitars and basses are like cool sculptures on the wall and add brilliant bursts of color to the comfy, functional space.
Add a Personal Touch
Frame posters and photos of musical events you’ve performed in or attended to bring a moment of yourself into a room. Designed for a Nashville musician, this room functions as a writing space for working on new pieces.
Make Way for Memories
Instead of leaving memorabilia tucked away in scrapbooks, give it a place of honor in your home. This homeowner creates a gallery wall in their dining room of favorite pop culture moments, including signed posters from beloved musicians.
Opt for Wallpaper
No boring walls here. Get playful with wallpaper that displays an oh-so ‘90s boombox. Entertainment consoles don’t need a lot of accessories, but a pared-down grouping of musicians’ coffee table books and vintage briefcases make for the perfect display.
Undertake a Tried-and-True Color Scheme
Start with a neutral color scheme and then build your own style from there. A palette of gray, black and white is punctuated by punches of orange. Full of texture and color, the artwork of a guitar makes a grand statement in the cozy mod living room.
