Bold Retreat
The space with the boldest color in the home, the second floor master bedroom with majestic teal walls and four poster canopy bed offers amazing views, comfort and a good dose of glamour.
Majestic Teal
The majestic teal for the master bedroom walls was also used for the ceiling, which helps give the well-detailed space a cozy feel.
Outdoor Balcony
French doors open the master bedroom up to the balcony outside, where fresh breezes and water views can be enjoyed.
Black and White
Black and white furniture and accessories like this handsome padded arm chair and side table help tone down the bright teal used for the master bedroom's walls and ceiling.
Sit Back and Relax
A wireless music system in the master bedroom's seating area offers a way to sit back and enjoy a favorite song with a cup of coffee in the morning, or a glass of wine at night.
Capitalizing On the View
Chests on each side of the bed are topped by custom mirrors that reflect the view of the river, to capitalize on the stunning scenery outside.
Focal Point
A scalloped headboard and framed modern artwork create a focal point behind the master suite's white four poster canopy bed.
Reflecting the View
Like the chest on the left side of the bed, another chest to the right is topped by a mirror to capitalize on the views outside. Assorted books and accessories add texture on top of the chest.
Gallery Wall
To minimize the flat screen TV, a gallery wall was created on the wall just off the left side of the bed. The wall's eclectic artwork around the TV includes a framed black and white photo of an old barn and figure drawings of dogs and European-style chairs.
All About Symmetry
To make the amazing views from the master suite the star of the show, the design team played with symmetry to give the space personality.
Defining Each Space
Too help ease visitors into the bold space, the hallway right outside is much lighter and subdued than the master bedroom suite inside.
Color Contrast
This view from the seating area in the master bedroom to the hallway shows the contrast between the teal used for the master suite and the lighter hallway landing.
Seating Area
The master bedroom is divided into two zones, including this inviting seating area with a three-person sofa and a coffee table with a coastal-inspired, surfboard-like shape.
Reading Time
A comfortable padded armchair with side table provides the perfect spot to catch up on reading while relaxing in this show-stopping second-floor master bedroom.
Formal But Fun
The master bedroom has a refined style. "This is much more formal than any other room in the house, but the bold color makes it a little more fun and not really stuffy," says interior designer Brian Patrick Flynn.
Coastal Flavor
The driftwood look of the floor fits the coastal flavor of the house and provides a neutral backdrop for the master bedroom's brighter walls and ceiling.
Decor Tip
Throw pillows in bold hues are a simple way to add a punch of color to a neutral sofa.
Oval Coffee Table
The oval coffee table that looks similar in shape and scale to a surfboard not only fits the coastal theme, but provides a handy place to rest drinks and space for books and flowers.
Statement Bed
The dramatic four poster canopy bed works perfectly with the master bedroom’s vaulted ceiling, helping to emphasize the height of the space and airy feeling of the room.
Touch of Color
A pop of coral and taupe add color to the framed black and white modern artwork above the master bedroom’s headboard.
Glamorous Lighting
The master bedroom’s luxe chandelier above the bed has turquoise-toned stones strung together for a glamorous look.
Cozy Area Rug
A neutral area rug under the bed anchors the space and adds a touch of warmth.
