Easily Transform a Cabinet Into Shoe Storage

Swap Out Legs

Instantly add modern flair to a cabinet or dresser by swapping out the existing legs with gold hairpin legs. This is a great time to change out any outdated hardware as well.

Assemble Shelves

Cut premade furniture shelves to size. To create a lip to keep the storage bins in place, glue square dowels the length of the shelves on the top and bottom of each shelf (Image 1). Secure in place with 1-inch brad nails (Image 2).

Install Drawer Slides

Follow the instructions on the packaging for the drawer slides. For ours, we started by separating the slide. Next, attach the sliding piece to the underside of the shelves you just made (Image 1). Attach the bottom portion of the slides into the cabinet, making sure the slides will line up when finished. Some cabinets may have magnets in place to keep doors shut. If this is the case, add a 3/4-inch-thick piece of wood inside the cabinet before securing the slide on top of the wood (Image 2). This will raise your sliding shelf up enough to clear the magnet as you pull it in and out. Next, line the slides up and insert the shelves.
