At first glance, Jackie Estrada's one-bedroom apartment has all the trappings of a typical student dwelling — cluttered with books and computer equipment. But a closer look reveals furniture and decor from the 1970s, a fun period with vibrant colors and wild patterns. Even though this Gen-Y young lady hadn't been born at that time, she's a '70s flower child deep down and loves the freewheeling style and colors of the era. The Design on a Dime team sends her bedroom back in time with a funky makeover for less than $1,000.

The Dilemma
Estrada's retro furniture includes a yellow armoire and a salmon-colored nightstand with mushrooms painted on the drawers. The ironing board, laundry hampers and missing closet door don't add much to the decor either.
