Tour a Brooklyn Apartment After a Jaw-Dropping Makeover

Brooklyn-based architecture and interior design firm Meshberg Group reimagined two awkwardly designed apartments into one bespoke industrial chic space in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The apartment's owner, Laura Garcia, is the founder and CEO of her own consulting design firm, Laura Garcia Design Development and worked alongside Adam Meshberg to create the space. "Laura and I have a had a long-standing relationship (our kids even go to school together), so it was an enjoyable project for the both of us," says Adam.

A lack of strong differentiation between rooms like the living and dining area added to the cluttered, claustrophobic effect before this apartment renovation.

From enclosed, dark and stuffy to light, airy and open, almost every piece of the home was locally sourced and custom made. This hallway lined with beautiful artwork opens up into the dining room furnished with an industrial feel in mind.

Mismatched furniture marred the continuity and flow of this apartment. Homeowner Laura says of the furniture she picked for the renovation, "I sourced much of the furniture for our apartment from the Hamptons where we have a second home. I find that there is a better selection of independent furniture stores and antique shops with more unique pieces that I like to incorporate into our home. Similarly, I like to support local Brooklyn vendors whenever possible.”

This floating desk with overhead cabinets makes for the perfect home office space. The geometric colored shapes on the wall go along with the industrial, graphic design of the rest of the home.

This open and bright bathroom came with a unique request from the owner: filtered shower water in the master shower.

A charming but outdated bathroom was replaced with a gleaming new spa-worthy space.

The Meshberg Group design of Laura and her family's apartment  celebrates the building’s industrial history (the Austin Nichols & Co. Warehouse was the city's largest grocer in the early 20th century before its conversion to condominiums) and captures the best light and the best views of the Manhattan skyline and Williamsburg Bridge.

Everything about this home is locally sourced and custom designed for Laura and her family including the millwork in the kitchen, a specialized pot and pan drawer to fit her Le Creuset, a pot filler over the sink, a custom dog food holder in the pantry and the hideaway cupboard for the toys in the den.

The former kitchen was closed off from the rest of the home.

White and grey marbled tile covers the walls and counters of this bathroom to give it a light and airy feel. The double vanity is perfect for this family home.

The dove grey and gold color scheme seen in other parts of the home continues in this lavish, cozy main bedroom. The 2,000-square-foot space features three bedrooms and three bathrooms.

Retaining the original ceiling height and historical windows is a signature of Meshberg Group principal Adam Meshberg and lends this apartment its mix of industrial and contemporary elements.
