Preppy and Classic
Navy blue and white stripes create a striking focal wall in this boy's nursery. To add dimension to the wall, designers Jennifer O'Dowd and Joanna Gick of J&J Design Group use flatboard to create the white stripes. The space will grow easily with Jack since the striped wall can act as a headboard to a big boy bed. Photography by John Woodcock
Serene Nursery Retreat
When planning a kid's room, designer Laura McCroskey of McCroskey Interiors says to first make sure the floor plan and furniture choices are functional and safe, then add in the wow factor. For this nursery, she brings in furniture that will grow with the child, like a dresser that is a changing station now but will continue to be storage in the future. Photo by Chad Jackson Photography
Mod Transportation Theme
Since children can outgrow themes quickly, designers Julie Frank and Alessia Corpino of My Tiny Nest keep the theme in this boy's room subtle and sophisticated. The focal wall behind the bed features a mod transportation wallpaper, while the navy blue, light blue and white color palette evokes a classic yet youthful atmosphere.
Modern and Playful Nursery
Since visual stimulation is important even at a baby's earliest age, interesting mobiles are a must-have decoration for any nursery. Designer Susie Fougerousse of of Rosenberry Rooms creates a one-of-a-kind mobile with small pom-poms and paper lanterns to hang above the modern crib.
Enchanting Nursery for a Prince
Designer Sherri Blum of Jack and Jill Interiors creates an over-the-top, royal-inspired nursery. An elegant four-poster crib takes center stage in the room and is dressed with silk bedding that features white roses. A pewter chandelier adds drama and light to the 12-foot-high ceiling.
Contemporary Punches of Color
Built-in cabinetry provides tons of hidden and open storage, an absolute necessity, for this shared boys' room. Designer Liz Carroll of Liz Carroll Interiors loves to use classic blue in boys' rooms, but she gives it a fresh perspective with an aqua hue and incorporating shades of tangerine.
Colorful Girl's Hangout
Modern meets frills in this playful, contemporary girl's bedroom with bright, bold shades of blue, pink and yellow and a mix of textures and patterns. A gallery of photos, artwork and quotes create a focal wall behind the bed. Design by RMSer ginnyphillips
Simple yet Cozy Shared Space
Shades of blue are combined with creams and whites to create a clean, classic color palette for this shared boys' room. A mix of patterns, including stripes, graphic and Ikat, add visual interest and texture to the space. Design by Liz Carroll of Liz Carroll Interiors.
Sweet Cottage Inspiration
Blue isn't solely a boy's hue. Designer Susie Fougerousse of Rosenberry Rooms uses a soft blue to set the scene for this girl's bedroom, and then brings in touches of pink and apple green as well as cottage-inspired furniture to add girly charm to the space.
