Meet the Owners

Susan Trujillo Miles, a stay-at-home mom; Seth Miles, an attorney; Ava-Riley, 9; Harrison, 7; and Eloise, 6, enjoy this fantastic four-bedroom 1979 ranch in Coral Gables, FL. “Susan loves bright, quirky things,” says designer Maggie Cruz. “We needed to figure out how to incorporate them throughout the house so they didn’t take over any room but still got noticed.”

Living Room: Bold Furniture

Maggie encouraged Susan to take the color plunge with two 90-inch-long blue sofas and two zigzag chairs. The rest of the room is about a hundred decibels quieter thanks to wood and chrome coffee tables, metal “bamboo” chairs, and a seagrass rug from Pottery Barn. The walls and ceilings are painted Seapearl by Benjamin Moore.

Entryway: Graphic Tile

To make a big impact, Susan covered her foyer floor with boldly patterned cement squares from Original Mission Tile. “I wanted that wow factor and knew it wouldn’t be too overwhelming in a 12-foot-by-12-foot area,” she says.

Kitchen: Blue Glass Cabinets

When Susan and Seth bought the house, the kitchen had these blue glass cabinets and matching countertops. She eventually fell for the look and decided to keep it almost exactly as is. The only changes made were swapping the blue glass countertops for white quartz ones to break up the sea of blue, and hanging a lantern-style pendant from Visual Comfort.
