Babies often start out with a fairly well-equipped closet. New parents are prone to stocking their nursery with supplies, gadgets and enough clothing to fit their little one for several months — or even years. With the right storage solutions, it is possible to find organization within an overflowing baby closet.

Consider dividing the closet into sections where each one will store clothing for a different phase of your baby's life. For example, clothes that will be worn immediately should hang on the top closet rod, while things that will be worn as the baby grows can hang on the bottom. Shelves can be reserved for clothing that is out of season or much too large for the baby — simply fold and stack these items, or place in a container.

Baskets are useful for storing toys and small accessories, like shoes, hats, socks and bibs. An over-the-door organizer with pockets can be used to keep lotions, ointments, wipes, hairbrushes and extra pacifiers.

Be sure to safely anchor all shelving or storage cubes to the wall. This will ensure that a growing baby is able to move freely about a room without the risk of being injured.
