Style-Boosting Bedroom Updates
A chaise longue (French for long chair) is a relaxing addition to the bedroom. Designed for reclining, they're the perfect spot for reading a book or catching a quick snooze. Design by RMSer Rethink Design.
Go Mad for Mod
Sixties modern design has come back strong, gaining a following among folks who weren't born when the style originally reigned supreme. RMSer ToreyCarrick perfected the look by covering a focal wall with textured MDF panels and geometric wallpaper. Contrasted against white walls and ceiling, the look is clean and balanced.
Select Bold Lighting
The jewelry of the room, the right lighting adds romantic sparkle. Choose fixtures that make a statement like this massive, streamlined pendant. Design by RMSer Rethink Design.
Creatively Use Space
RMSer EastTN2 converted their seldom-used attic into a sprawling master suite complete with a spa-like bathroom, entertainment lounge and bedroom proper. The suite's three areas are clearly defined yet still feel connected, courtesy of partial wall dividers like the floor-to-ceiling draperies separating the bedroom from the rest of the suite.
Opt for Old World Elegance
A custom canopy and rich drapery panels make the bed the dramatic centerpiece of this luxurious master suite. Certainly a high-end look, a bed crown is a relatively easy project to accomplish. Simply attach a fabric valance to a wooden shelf to create a cornice, then suspend the drapes from a cafe rod mounted within. Design by RMSer EastTN2.
Stencils Add Interest
A restful color palette of soft blue, turquoise and crisp white gives this bedroom a dreamy aspect. Stenciled onto the wall behind the bed, a subtle geometric pattern adds movement and depth. Design by RMSer Rethink Design.
Don't Forget the Ceiling
Often overlooked, the ceiling is a room's fifth wall. RMSer kblalock gave hers the custom treatment with coffers, tray molding and recessed lighting.
Pile on the Pillows
Layer pillows in assorted sizes and fabrics to create a cushy and colorful bed. For the ultimate in comfort, invest in down pillow inserts and shop catalogs for decorative covers that can easily be switched out with the seasons. Design by RMSer Layla Palmer.
Modernize a favorite heirloom with streamlined pulls that coordinate with the room's decor. Because the original hardware increases an antique's value, store it in a labeled container should you ever wish to replace it. Design by RMSer Patrick.
Create an Escape
True, we can't all have RMSer BoBendana's oceanfront view, but we can take a few cues from her laid-back, coastal style. Add a touch of the tropics with a seagrass rug, exotic accessories and gauzy sheers surrounding the bed.
Maximize Architectural Elements
Small in size but big on style, this Manhattan bedroom stylishly combines workspace with sleep space. Leaving the unusual rounded window unobscured fills the room with natural light and creates an eye-catching architectural detail. Design by RMSer lauranyc.
Add Cottage Charm
Whitewashed clapboard walls and pine floor give this bedroom timeless appeal. RMSer homemom added the painted boards to the wall behind the bed herself to give her modern home a vintage look.
