What are the HGTV Designer of the Year Awards?

The Designer of the Year Awards celebrate interior designers, architects and landscape architects who are creating beautiful spaces.

How do I submit?

Review the 6 categories, and choose one (or more!) that are a great fit for your inspired designs. Fill out the Project Submission form at www.hgtv.com/designeroftheyearsubmissions by June 5th at 5:00pm EST.

What do I need to include in my submission?

Include at least 10 photos of your space, including a variety of angles. These may be submitted bia any file sharing method (zip file, dropbox, WeTransler, drive, project link etc).

How many projects can I submit?

You may submit one project per category.

How many professionals can represent the project?

A project can be represented by one or two professionals. If it is a firm or company submitting the project, only two professionals from the company will eligible for the prizes.

Can I give credit to other professionals who played a role in the project?

Yes! We always want to give credit where credit is due. If selected for nomination, you will be asked to fill out a form and provide names of all the professionals who need credit for the project. We will add photography credit to the photos. Other professionals will be added to the photo credit. These additional professionals will not be eligible for the competition or the prizes.

What is the preliminary round?

The Preliminary Round is the first round of the competition. This is when the Designer of the Year Awards team will review your project for the first time after you have submitted your work via the submission form. If they like what they see, they will ask you to submit to the First Round.

When will I know if I've been selected as a final nominee?

After submitting your project to www.hgtv.com/designeroftheyearsubmissions, the Designer of the Year Awards team will send you an email notifying you of your nomination in the awards. These emails will be sent on a rolling basis from 6/6 - 8/6.

When will final nominees be selected?

Final Nominees will be selected and notified by 8/6.

How many final nominees will there be?

Each of the 6 categories will have at least 6 nominees.

Will I receive promotion materials?

Yes, we will provide all final nominees with an image you can use for promotion. This will be provided to you the day before the awards go live.

Can I announce that I am a nominee once I have been selected?

No. We ask that you please wait until 8/20, when The Designer of the Year Awards go live, to announce your nomination. After 8/20, you can share, post and tweet about your nomination as much as you like!

When and where does the voting take place?

The voting period will begin on August 20th at 9:00am EST and end on September 26th at 5:00pm EST. The voting will be on HGTV.com on the Designer of the Year website (www.hgtv.com/designeroftheyear).

How will Category Winners be selected?

The HGTV.com audience will vote on their favorite project in each category. The projects with the most votes from the HGTV.com audience in each of the 6 categories will be named the "People's Pick Winners". The HGTV.com editorial team will also vote on their favorite project in each 6 categories. The projects with the most votes from the HGTV.com editorial team in each of the categories will be named the "HGTV Editors' Pick Winners". A project can be both a People's Pick and HGTV Editors' Pick Winner, but will not receive duplicate prizes.

How will the Overall Winner be selected?

The judges panel will review the category winners (People's Choice and HGTV Editors' Pick) to select the Overall Winner based on the judging criteria listed below.

(a) 25% on the overall quality of the design work

(b) 25% based on the innovation and creativity of the project

(c) 25% on the relevance to the category

(d) 25% on the utilization of available square footage and materials

Is there a prize?

Yes! The HGTV editorial team will take a trip to visit the Overall Winner and film videos to be featured on HGTV.com. The Overall Winner will also receive a commemorative certificate and editorial feature on HGTV.com. All Category winners will receive a commemorative certificate and editorial feature on HGTV.com.

When and where will the Overall and Category Winners be announced?

The winners will be announced on HGTV.com on 9/27/24.
