Cinnamon makes a great swizzle stick for Fado's Irish Jig.

Most places that host big St. Patrick's Day celebrations—Chicago, New York, and Ireland, of course—are still steeped in winter weather. And sometimes when it's 40 degrees outside, you just don't feel like guzzling down an ice-cold green beer. That's when it's time to do an Irish Jig. No you shouldn't dance until you're warm enough to want cold beer; you should try the warm whiskey drink served at Fado Irish Pub & Restaurant locations across the country.

Fado has a strict "no green beer" policy for St. Patrick's Day and the Irish Jig honors Celtic traditions without becoming a cliché. Irish whiskey is infused with fresh Granny Smith apples and cinnamon sticks, then poured into hot water and topped with a sprinkling of brown sugar. It'll keep you warm during any party or parade.

Fado Irish Jig

  • 2.5 ounces hot apple and cinnamon-infused whiskey, heated*
  • Hint of brown sugar
  • Oranges and cloves to garnish

Put hot apple and cinnamon-infused whiskey in a mug then top with 4-6 ounces of hot water. Add a dash of brown sugar. Garnish with fresh orange peel and cloves.

Hot apple and cinnamon-infused whiskey

  • 1 750-milliliter bottle of whiskey (Fado uses Jameson)
  • 3 medium Granny Smith apples, cored and quartered
  • 4 cinnamon sticks

Combine all ingredients in a large jar. Refrigerate 2 to 5 days, shaking the jar and tasting the infusion daily. Strain through a cheesecloth into another jar to remove excess cinnamon and apple pieces.
