Laundry Room Tote Bin Storage Unit

Turn regular plastic storage bins into laundry room storage units and portable clothes baskets. When clothes are clean, folded and in their proper bin, simply slide out the container and unload fresh laundry in its designated room.

Optional: The materials and instructions create one storage unit for three baskets. Double the materials to create another unit, then stack them on top of each other for additional storage. Use the plastic bins to temporarily hold clean or dirty clothes or to organize cleaning supplies.

Materials Needed:

  • 3 stacking plastic totes, approximately 11" deep x 16" wide
  • 8' 1x12 pine boards (2)
  • 8' 1x2 pine board
  • 2" screws (12)
  • 1 1/4" wood screws (18)
  • wood glue
  • measuring tape
  • square
  • saw
  • drill
  • countersink screw bit

Measure Totes

Measure the height, width and length of the plastic totes. Write down measurements. Multiply the overall height by 3 and add 7 inches. Cut two 1x12 pine boards to this length. Measure the overall width of plastic totes. Add 1/2" and cut two 1x12 pine boards to this length. Length of totes should match 1x12 widths at 11 1/2" wide. If your totes are a different width, use a matching width board.
