Hide CaptionShow CaptionThis family room lacks warmth and comfort — not to mention the support beam eyesore that is hindering the room's layout.
Homeowner Dalet Brady and her two boys spend a lot of time in their combination family and dining room. Dalet feels limited on how she can arrange the space because of the support beam in the middle of the room. Having a structural element such as a support beam in the middle of a room can limit the way you design the space. But, hiding the element isn’t always the answer — sometimes making it bigger works even better. Designer Angelo Surmelis and the 24 Hour Design team transform a family room that is plagued by an ugly support beam sitting smack-dab in the middle of the space.
