AfterHost Joan Steffend and designer Beth Solberg transform a cluttered storage room into a classic modern den.

The old carpet is replaced with a black tile border and a rug made out of a piece of carpet. The carpet edges are bound with carpet tape for a finished look.$95 — Walls
The knotty pine paneling is hidden behind wallboard that's secured with roofing nails for a contemporary look. The louvered doors are disguised with more wallboard. Silver paint adds interest to the edges.$28 — Drapes
Brown and gray fabric is stitched together for striped window treatments.$61 — Sofa
A dated sofa is given a new look with fabric and cushions.$10 — Rug

Two lampshades are paired with a piece of milky-colored Plexiglas for a unique lighted side table. One lampshade is set directly on the floor and the other is set upside-down on top and hot-glued in place.
