A large farmhouse-style kitchen combines classic black and white hues with a rustic wood island for a clean and simple finish.

A back door and kitchen window leading to the deck make outdoor grilling a breeze. “There is a major indoor-outdoor living element in this house,” says interior designer Brian Patrick Flynn.  “The pass-through between the sink area in the kitchen and the grilling area on the deck is a great example, and what’s excellent is when you’re grilling you can easily pass drinks and food out the window.”

Vintage-inspired metal pendants and retro steel and wood stools pick up the black accents found throughout the home and lend an industrial feel to the kitchen.

“Asheville is a farm-to-table community, so it makes sense that the kitchen should lend itself to that,” says Brian. “I covered the island in original wood from the house and added a custom top made out of butcher block, which is awesome for families because you can prepare food and it's easy to clean.”
