Emily's Best Makeovers From HGTV Design Star
From the fashion-inspired apartment to her eclectic glass house, see Emily Henderson's most memorable makeovers from Design Star.
Challenge 10: Modern Apartment
A color palette of charcoal grays and deep blues is combined with luxurious fabrics to represent the high-end textiles found in Tom's wardrobe, which she uses as inspiration for this room. Since his accessories always consists of a Rolex watch and cufflinks, Emily adds sophisticated metallics throughout the space in lighting, furniture and even, a simple pinstriped wall treatment.
Challenge 9: Glass Houses
Emily sets the scenes of her glass house by creating a focal wall with floral fabric on the back wall. Emily mixes styles, colors and patterns to represent her favorite look: eclectic, which wins her rave reviews from the judges. To create an intimate look, she adds a lot of accessories that represent personal objects she would have in her home.
Challenge 8: Dining Room
For the dining room challenge, Emily and Michael design a space completely out of repurposed furnishings. They paint the ceiling a bright green to create an "intentional explosion" of color, and for her project, Emily attaches plastic flowers to a chandelier and paints the entire piece a crisp white.
Challenge 7: Sears Kitchen
For the Sears kitchen photo shoot, Emily teams up with Courtland to create a modern traditional kitchen with a subtle Italian flair. Old World-inspired granite, a Venetian wall treatment and classic neutral tile complete the look.
Challenge 6: Trump Designs
Emily and her teammates, Alex, Casey and Michael, must create an apartment worthy of the Trump brand. They mix modern furniture and metallic surfaces with a neutral color palette to create the luxurious yet contemporary space.
Challenge 5: Firehouse Designs
For one of her favorite challenges, Emily creates a customized FDNY coffee table with a heartwarming note written in the letters for the firefighters. Her teammates, Alex, Casey and Michael, paint murals of the city and a firefighter, as well as design a learning and working area for the New York City firefighters.
Challenge 4: Flower Market
True to her natural style, Emily chooses the waxflower weed as her inspiration because of its effortless nature. The room is infused with a bohemian romantic style and a bright and cherry color palette of blues and pinks.
Challenge 3: Musical Inspiration
To create the rooftop patio, the designers are challenged with using a musical instrument as inspiration. Emily selects the tuba to inspire a place of enjoyment that someone would want to zone out in. Deep purple and modern low furniture set the scene for this relaxing patio.
Challenge 2: Fashion Forward
In the fashion challenge, Emily selects the tailored suit to use as her inspiration. Streamlined furnishings and luxurious fabrics reflect the suit's look. A mixture of metallic and faux fur pillows contrast well with the tailored sofa.
Challenge 1: White Box
For the first challenge, Emily is tasked with designing a space for Michael Moeller. She chooses a color palette that reflects his design aesthetic; however, she has trouble making design decisions and ends up playing it too safe, which lands her in the bottom two.
