Why Back-to-School-Season Is the Best Time to Get Your Life in Order
After a laid-back, lazy summer, back-to-school-season offers a chance to re-focus and get organized.
While most adults won't be shopping for laptops, backpacks and textbooks this time of year, back-to-school-season is actually a great time to refresh the home and re-evaluate your day-to-day routine. Think of it as a second chance at New Year's resolutions.
Let students' infectious excitement and eagerness for a fresh start inspire you to change up things too.
Here's what to do in August and September while students prepare for the first day of school.
Clean out the kitchen.
You'll be more motivated to pack a healthy lunch if the fridge and pantry are organized. Wipe down the refrigerator and freezer first before organizing them. Buy clear containers and baskets to hold pantry items, and, finally, organize it in 10 steps.
Create a designated drop zone.
Rachel Whyte
Whether it's in your entryway or the basement, a drop zone prevents clutter from piling up in the wrong areas (read: kitchen and bedroom.) Wall organizers, hooks, baskets, benches and small tables are great options for any space, no matter what size. Start the path to decluttering, here.
Proritize sleep.
Sarah Deragon
The key to a productive day is good quality shuteye. Improve your sleep by flipping the mattress; investing in high-quality, supportive pillows; upgrading bedding; and optimizing your bedroom for relaxation. You could also try feng shui to encourage deep sleep. Don't forget, decor can make a big impact too!
Make your workspace inspiring.
A clutter-free desk improves productivity. Whether you work at home or in an office, take time to sort through piled up papers, organize important docs and hang inspiring art or magazine clippings. Family photos and travel trinkets add personality.
