Materials and Tools:

child-size green hooded sweatsuit
2 large sheets of dark green felt
1 sheet of tan felt
1 sheet light green felt
1 sheet medium green felt
pillow stuffing (or other lightweight packing material)
2 large googly eyes
fabric glue or hot-glue gun and glue sticks
scissors
safety pins
brown fabric marker

Steps:

1. Cut two circles out of dark green felt. The smaller circle should be approximately the size of the child's back. The larger circle should be 3 inches wider than the smaller circle on all sides.

2. Join the edges of the two green circles together with fabric glue or hot glue, gathering the excess together as you go. Leave an opening large enough to fill the green felt circles with pillow stuffing, crumpled newspapers, tissue paper or packing peanuts (any material that will fill the pillow without adding weight). After it's filled, seal the opening with glue.

3. Center the stuffed pillow (turtle shell) on the back of the green sweatshirt and attach all around with safety pins.

4. Cut enough light green felt octagons to cover the turtle shell. Cut smaller medium-green felt octagons, one for each of the lightest green octagons. Center and glue the smaller octagons on the larger, and then cover the shell with the felt cutouts.

5. Glue two light green felt circles to the top of the hood. Attach googly eyes to the center of each circle with glue. Finally, cut out a large tan felt oval and glue onto the front of the sweatshirt to create the turtle's belly. Add shell lines with a brown fabric marker.
