The Dog WhispererKitai — Lhasa Apso mix
Lives with Stacie Tamaki
San Jose, Calif.
Stacie creates imaginative handmade Halloween costumes for Kitai each year. Modeled after Cesar Millan of The Dog Whisperer, Kitai shows that she knows how to be the pack leader, especially easy when the rest of the pack is literally attached to her back.
Created by Debbie Richmond
Port Charlotte, Fla.
Debbie's cat is ready to fly off into the night in this black vampire cape and gothic gold cross. Debbie says that she "dresses her cats every year — poor things."
Emma — Pug
Lives with Maureen Engh
Boise, Idaho
Emma looks sharp in this "porcu-pug" costume. Her owner, Maureen, created the look by hot gluing drinking straws to a full-body-style harness and visor. It was a long process which Maureen says she completed while watching HGTV.
Reba — Schipperke/Jack Russell mix
Lives with Brenda Main
Frederick, Md.
Reba is ready for a luau in this colorful lei and matching dress. Brenda, her owner, has created a suitcase full of wardrobe choices for Reba, all made by hand mainly from cut down human clothing and accessories. Elasticized, ruffled trims work perfectly as skirts, and adding a bit of lace to a cut-off men's shirt collar creates a fun, dressy collar the perfect size for Reba. Brenda also recommends using children's elastic bows for paw decorations, just make sure they don't pinch or impede your pup's movement.
Takoda — Shiloh Shepherd
Lives with Cynthia Schleifer
Whippany, N.J.
Everyone told Cynthia that she should put a saddle on Takoda, her 125-pound Shiloh shepherd. For Halloween, she decided to do just that. To create Shiloh's saddle, Cynthia used fleece for the horse blanket, felt for the saddle and a child's visor for the stirrups. A thin ribbon bridle along Takoda's muzzle completes the costume. Now this pampered pooch is ready to "giddyup" all over town.
