Although the former Disney illustrator and art school grad spends up to five hours painting a masterpiece for each of his Color Splash projects, “anyone can paint a canvas that’s just a flat color with a simple stripe on it,” David says. “You can add glitter or Swarovski crystals — whatever’s your pleasure!”

David relies on floor-to-ceiling curtains to dress up his rooms again and again. But even luxe-looking drapes don’t have to be pricey. “You can get a polyester dress sheer for $3 per yard, while a drapery sheer is around $15,” says David. “Dress sheers also hang really beautifully and diffuse the light so much better than heavier fabrics.”

The crew goes through two to three rolls per episode. They use it to help paint everything from walls to mirrors, to lay out wall-design installations, and to secure brown paper to floors during big renos.
