Follow along with Leanne in this easy, step-by-step plan to add open shelving that's as functional as it is beautiful.
When it comes to creating your dream home, Leanne knows the importance of having the right tools. That is why she partnered with HART Tools. HART provides an easy one-stop shop at Walmart to grab everything you need to keep projects going and creativity flowing (plus, the tools are easy on the eye).
STEP 1: Distress Metal Brackets
To achieve that old and textured look, use your orbital sander with a finer sandpaper for a smooth finish.
STEP 2: Measure and Mark Drill Points
A good rule of thumb is to have the top of your shelf be 18" above your countertop. So, for a 2" shelf, measure up 16" from your counter.
STEP 3: Make a Hole and Set Anchor
Using your drill and a drilling bit sized for your anchor, drill your holes and tap each anchor in with a hammer. Repeat for each bracket.
STEP 4: Screw in Brackets
Use your impact driver and impact-rated driving bit to attach your brackets to the wall.
STEP 5: Put Shelf Up
Once you have attached all your brackets, set your shelf on top. For extra reinforcement, you can drive screws through the top of each bracket into the underside of the shelf.
STEP 6: Clean Up and Style
Grab your wet/dry vacuum to clean up any debris and decorate!
