Chip and Joanna take their new clients, Noah and Jessica Dansby, on a tour through three homes in Hillsboro, Texas, a small charming city halfway between Dallas and Waco. The Dansby family currently lives in Hillsboro and want to stay, but their house is too small for their three growing sons. Chip and Jo found three houses that could potentially provide the Dansbys with the space and character they're looking for. First they tour the 'Nut House,' a spacious home on an ideal lot, yet it is the epitome of a fixer upper after being on the market for more than two years. Next, they see the Suite House, an abode with ample space in a wonderful neighborhood, but the renovation required is daunting to the Dansbys. Lastly they check out 'Jo's Amazing Technicolor Dream House,' the least spacious of the three homes on the tour, but the most affordable. Can Chip and Jo find the perfect home for this growing family? What will the first design meeting be like at the Silos? Will Chip remember his twelfth anniversary?

They're looking for a house with several acres of land, as well as a big kitchen and lots of space to entertain. With a total budget of $359,000, they're hoping that Chip and Joanna can surprise them with an outside-the-box rural renovation. Even so, Todd and Lexia are taken aback when find their first stop is not a home, but a horse barn! The next house they visit is the "Dilapidated Duo." The house is small and dumpy, and it would require a lot of extra additions to create the space their family is hoping for. "The Ranch House" is the last house the Meeks visit on their real estate tour. To their relief, this last option actually looks like a real house!

Ken and Kelly Downs are a recently wed couple looking for a home they can both call their own. They've outgrown Ken's small bachelor pad and hope to find a place that reflects both of their individual styles. With a budget of $250,000 in Waco, Texas, they are looking for a home with wood floors, an open kitchen, and his and hers office space. The first house they visit is the "Chalk Ranch House," named after the large chalkboard wall in one of the bedrooms. Kelly isn't a fan of the brick exterior, but she agrees that a little paint would be a great improvement. The second house, the "Cutie Tudor," is quaint and only needs relatively few updates. It already has a layout convenient for a large master suite, but the biggest project would be renovating the kitchen. The last house is a wild card that Chip throws into the mix. He calls it the "Three Little Pigs House" because it seems so old and weathered, a stiff wind could blow it down like the wolf in the children's folk tale.

Chris and Lindy Ermoian feel like nomads - after living in five homes in six years, they are more than ready to settle down into a forever home. They like the Hewitt area of Texas because of its close proximity to jobs and family. With a total budget of $237,000, Chris and Lindy hope to find a 3-4 bedroom house with an open floorplan, a "man cave" for Chris, a nice yard for their dogs, and a relaxing, coastal style for Lindy. The first house they visit Chip calls the "All American Ranch" because of it's colonial style exterior. The second home Chip nicknames "The Green Mile," for the expansive yard and long driveway leading up to the house. Last, they tour "The Wood House." The carpet inside has a bad odor, and an awkward pony wall closes off the front entry.

Cameron and Jessie Bell currently live in a 690 square foot house and love the cozy charm of small-scale living. While they're not necessarily looking for a larger space, they do want a place to call their own; and they need Chip and Joanna's help. They're looking for the character of an older home, and aren't afraid to brave the filth and grime that comes with years of disrepair. The first house they visit is nicknamed "The Duplex House." Formerly a duplex, as the name suggests, it has a more closed off and quirky layout that will need some opening up. "The Transition House" is next, with highlighter-green paint on the exterior and an overall ravaged appearance on the inside. Last, they visit "The Shotgun House." This house is also abandoned, falling apart, and is the smallest of the three. Because it is a shotgun house, all the rooms are conjoined, making for very little privacy in the bedroom.
