Episode 711F

Alison has a big project on her hands as she flips an ancient kitchen into a modern masterpiece. To start, she re-vamps the floor plan, eliminating a window, opening up the doorway to a small nook and doubling the size of the main entrance to include a sliding glass door. Once the layout is in place, Alison brings in all things modern to give the space a clean, linear look. High gloss neon green cabinetry add pop to the room while wavy ceramic backsplash tiles and white quartz countertops give the room a neutral and stylish feel. For DIY projects, Alison and Trey work on a pull-out pantry that fits right into an old closet space and Alison and Maria tackle a tree-themed bar area and custom wood wall.

Fred and Dani have an original kitchen from the 1970's complete with mismatched appliances, dated cabinets and fluorescent lighting. They beg Alison to give their kitchen an update that will mesh with the rest of their Spanish-style home and she delivers by removing the weird cabinetry along the curved brick wall, opening up the space to allow an 8-foot long island with stools, and plenty of prep space on the new granite countertops. The brick wall gets cleaned up, matching appliances get moved in, along with a beautiful wood-surround hood and a hammered copper sink. Finally she creates a rustic dining table, a pot rack out of a re-purposed garden trellis and fur-on-hyde stools, all with a Spanish flare.

When Alison walks into John and Kerry's kitchen, she realizes they weren't kidding around, the space is in desperate need for a crash. Without much additional space to expand into, Alison takes on the layout first, closing off several windows and breaking out the wall into the butler's pantry to make space for the L-shaped kitchen. With more wall space available, Alison adds dual colored cabinetry and open shelving in every direction, giving this family more storage and prep space than they ever thought possible. Granite countertops, laminate flooring and a DIY organization wall give the kitchen a fresh start and a chance at durability against the couple's four young boys.

Stacie and Ben Childers are soon-to-be empty nesters with one daughter enrolled at Baylor University and another hoping to follow in her big sister's footsteps. Moving from California, Ben and Stacie are looking for a home in Waco to not only be near their kids, but also give their daughters a place to escape the rigors of campus life. With an all-in budget of $175,000, the Childers would like to find a three-bedroom, two-bath house full of original detailing and shiplap. The first house they visit, Chip names the 'Beanstalk Bungalow' after the large seedpods that dangle from the catalpa tree in front of the house. Next, they tour the 'Doll House.' Very small and quaint, it lives up to its name. Last, they visit the 'Christmas Craftsman,' which Chip and Jo name after the green trim and red accents on the exterior of the house.

Ken and Kelly Downs are a recently wed couple looking for a home they can both call their own. They've outgrown Ken's small bachelor pad and hope to find a place that reflects both of their individual styles. With a budget of $250,000 in Waco, Texas, they are looking for a home with wood floors, an open kitchen, and his and hers office space. The first house they visit is the "Chalk Ranch House," named after the large chalkboard wall in one of the bedrooms. Kelly isn't a fan of the brick exterior, but she agrees that a little paint would be a great improvement. The second house, the "Cutie Tudor," is quaint and only needs relatively few updates. It already has a layout convenient for a large master suite, but the biggest project would be renovating the kitchen. The last house is a wild card that Chip throws into the mix. He calls it the "Three Little Pigs House" because it seems so old and weathered, a stiff wind could blow it down like the wolf in the children's folk tale.

Chris and Lindy Ermoian feel like nomads - after living in five homes in six years, they are more than ready to settle down into a forever home. They like the Hewitt area of Texas because of its close proximity to jobs and family. With a total budget of $237,000, Chris and Lindy hope to find a 3-4 bedroom house with an open floorplan, a "man cave" for Chris, a nice yard for their dogs, and a relaxing, coastal style for Lindy. The first house they visit Chip calls the "All American Ranch" because of it's colonial style exterior. The second home Chip nicknames "The Green Mile," for the expansive yard and long driveway leading up to the house. Last, they tour "The Wood House." The carpet inside has a bad odor, and an awkward pony wall closes off the front entry.
