HGTV shows you how to visit the real life castle behind Downton Abbey. An inside look at three of the grandest stately homes in England. First we visit Highclere Castle, which is both the backdrop and the historical inspiration for hit TV series Downton Abbey. Next we travel to Althorp, the grand palace that is the ancestral home of Princess Diana. Her brother the Earl Spencer gives us a private tour, including the island where Diana is laid to rest. Finally we stay at Cliveden, a luxury country hotel which was once home to the richest family in America.
