Season 7, Episode 2

Eleven Designers Transform Identical White Rooms Shopping Only at a Home and Garden Store

Design Star rolls into LA's breathtaking Union Station for the iconic and always eagerly anticipated White Room Challenge. Host and Mentor David Bromstad explains that each of the eleven remaining designers will have two days to transform a plain white room into a true representation of their design point of view. Each designer is given the same white walls and white furniture pieces to work with. The final twist is that to make over their space, they may only utilize what they can buy at a home and garden center on a budget of $1000. On the final day, the designers' work is reviewed by the Design Panel, Vern Yip and Genevieve Gorder, joined by high-end home remodeler and rap artist Rob Van Winkle, aka Vanilla Ice, host of "The Vanilla Ice Project" on DIY Network. At Evaluation, one designer is chosen as the winner of the White Room Challenge. The least successful designer is sent home, leaving ten to compete for the grand prize: their own series on HGTV.
