Dysfunction Junction

Fourteen years after buying a small, three-bedroom home under pressure, a couple and their two teenagers have decided it's time for a change. He's at his wit's end and is ready to pack up if real estate agent Todd can find them something bigger, newer and move-in ready. She loves their little house, though, and hopes designer Jillian can turn their "dysfunction junction" into an organized dream space. The home's location on a quiet cul de sac will be hard for Todd to match and Jillian knows houses of this vintage can have big issues, but both are determined to win this family over.

It's Not Easy Living Green

A couple and their seven-year-old son live in a spacious house on a hill with an amazing view, however they are not inspired by its dated, dysfunctional layout. Designer Jillian sets out to create a more open, Zen-like space for this environmentally concious couple, while Todd finds some creative options that blend form and function with environmental awareness to lure them away.

Charmaine and Cam

A couple has a quaint and cozy cottage with a great location but dated, dysfunctional and downright dangerous elements. The kitchen has old appliances, the main-floor bathroom doubles as a laundry room and there's a showerhead that won't stop falling. He thinks there's a lot to love about the old house and thinks Jillian has what it takes to bring the "old gal" back up to date. His wife is doubtful that any renovation can give them the much-needed space they need and believes Todd can win the challenge by finding them a home with a modern layout with old-time character and charm.

Family Home Attachments

Eighteen years after Becca and Cory bought her family's 1970s-style home, they're considering starting over in a house that's better suited to their needs in the next phase of their life together. Becca's mobility issues following a car accident have Cory campaigning with Todd for a modern, one-story home with an accessible kitchen and bathroom, but Becca is attached to their current home and hopes Jillian can deliver a renovation that improves her quality of life.

Finding the Right Layout

A couple overlooked a bad layout to buy a bigger home for their family of five. Although it's located in good neighborhood within close proximity to schools and work, its dated, unfinished and cramped rooms leave little to be desired. While she is more than willing to pack up and find a new home with a functional layout, he thinks their current home can have it all with some of Jillian's expertise.

Happily Ever After Home

Newlyweds skipped the honeymoon to buy a fixer-upper with income potential, but a complicated renovation is starting to turn their initial excitement into buyer's remorse. Still madly in love with their new house, she has hope it can function better with Jillian's touches, but he thinks Todd is the key to their happily ever after.

Done With DIY Detention

Ten years ago, a couple made the move from their cramped duplex to a bigger fixer-upper with a yard for their three growing boys. A decade later, he is ready to hang up his tool belt and wants Todd to show them houses with more square footage and better layouts. But she has faith Jillian can convince him to stay with a more open-concept design.

Dysfunctional Design Dilemma

High school sweethearts were initially excited about their 1970s two-level walk-out with a pool and hot tub, but after chipping away at numerous reno projects, he has had enough of the dysfunctional design. She understands his frustration but is convinced Jillian can take their poorly configured rooms and turn them into polished, beautiful spaces.

A 10-Year Turning Point

A 10-year case of buyers' remorse has a couple at a turning point. He can't imagine living anywhere else and is counting on Jillian to revamp the kitchen and basement. She is tired of the odd layout, lack of space and long work commute, so Todd is challenged to find a lower-maintenance, appropriate-sized home closer to town.

Functional Family Home

High school sweethearts accepted a generous offer on home they bought from family three years ago, but now they're not so sure it's a fit. While she loves the yard and pool, she hopes Jillian can help make the inside more functional for their family. He isn't a fan of the awkward split-level layout, and hopes Todd can dazzle her with a new, turnkey house with a modern layout.

Jackpot or Not

The realities of a home's shortcomings are starting to set in for a couple that picked up a rambling two-story house to start a family in five years ago. She's frustrated with the odd layout, the lack of storage despite being such a large house and the dark, oppressive rooms with no way of watching the kids in the backyard. While Todd is on the hunt for a more ideal locale for the worried mother, Jillian is helping with what the husband feels are merely aesthetic fixes to a home he admittedly wants to stay in.

Season 9, Episode 12

Finding Time for Family

After hurriedly agreeing to purchase a spacious, two-story home in her husband's old neighborhood, a woman's misgivings about the house have caught up with her and she's ready for a change. With the home's location in the affordable suburbs, Jillian's job is to help repair the dysfunction and many flaws that are pushing the busy mother of three away while Todd attempts to find the family a more efficient home that cuts back on the long commute robbing her of family time.

Season 9, Episode 13

Too Tiny for Twins

Jennifer and Donna bought their current house while they were considering having a second child but quickly found themselves in cramped quarters when twins arrived instead. Jennifer is ready to sell and hopes Todd can find the family a larger house with enough room for an office and separate workout area. However, Donna believes Jillian can make their home more functional by increasing the number of bedrooms and revamping the kitchen.
