Brighten Up Vintage Milk Bottles

Cover clean bottles with a spray primer that works on glass; let dry. Then spray-paint the bottles and just inside the tops.

New Hues

For added color, paint a hose clamp (from $1 each, at hardware stores) and attach it around the top of a bottle.

Turn a Table Into a Bench

Paint the table’s legs and sides. Use spray mount or hot glue to adhere a 3-inch-thick piece of high-density foam to a 1/2-inch-thick piece of plywood, both cut the same size as the tabletop. Wrap a piece of batting tightly around the plywood and foam, then using a staple gun, fasten it to the underside of the plywood. Remember to choose a sturdy table.

Choose a Fun Fabric

Lay a piece of fabric on the ground, print side down. Center the plywood/batting over the fabric, batting side down. Wrap the fabric taut over the batting and staple it to the underside of the plywood, like you're wrapping a present. Trim excess an inch beyond the staples. Attach the new fabric seat to the tabletop using long strips of super-strong Velcro tape.

Make Message Boards

1950s metal trays are transformed in a few short steps. Tap a nail into the tray to mark where you want holes for the cord. Drill holes. If necessary, use sandpaper to smooth around sharp edges.

What's Old is New

String cord or thin ribbon through the holes; knot the ends to hang. Use magnets to stick papers to the metal boards. If your tray doesn't hang straight, stick Velcro dots on the bottom corners of the tray's back (put the other half of the dots on the wall) to help keep it in place.

Transform a Campstool

Turn this folding piece into a cute perch made to hold books, towels or other light items — not to sit. First, remove the old fabric seat and any staples or nails. Paint the frame; let dry.

Finishing Touches

Using a staple gun, attach new fabric to the frame. This example uses a double-sided cotton place mat — it has finished edges, and you can see a pattern even when the stool is closed. Use a hammer to attach a length of nail-head trim (at craft stores) over the staples. Snip off excess trim with wire cutters.

Give Nesting Tables a Coat of Color

This set of nesting tables turns playful when you spruce it up with eye-catching paint colors. If your tables have lots of nicks or aren’t in great condition, sand them.

One in Every Color

Turn the tables upside down and paint the legs. Once the legs are dry, flip the tables right-side up and paint the tops.
