We say buy it — then fix it! Fixer Upper pairs renovation, design and real estate pros Chip and Joanna Gaines with Waco/Dallas, Texas-area buyers to renovate the wrong house that's in the right location.

Historic Tudor-Style Home for a New Family

Chip and Joanna Gaines take on a historical project for Courtney and Joey Scrivano, who are ready to upgrade from their modest loft to a house where they can raise their new baby. Built in 1927, their Tudor-style home is outdated, has little functionality, and lacks a true master suite. With a renovation budget of $200,000, Chip and Jo get to work preserving the home's historic charm while making sure it meets the needs of this new modern family.

The Jacksons need four bedrooms and three bathrooms that, ideally, can be renovated within their budget of $400,000. Chip and Jo show them three options and, after a successful bid, Jo gets right to work on a design plan that incorporates the family's rustic and coastal style preferences. Meanwhile, Chip has his hands full keeping up with Jo's requests and updating the floor plan to meet the family's needs.

First Time Buyers Take a Chance on a Vintage Fixer Upper

Chip and Joanna Gaines take Kelsey and Trip Purks on a tour through three classic homes in the historic Dean Highland neighborhood of Waco, Texas. The Purks have been renting for three years and are now ready to buy their own little piece of Texas. They'd like to avoid a cookie cutter home preferring an older home with lots of character but with the opportunity to make their own mark. They're looking for an open floor plan with a big kitchen in a neighborhood lined with big trees, wide sidewalks, and quiet roads located close to downtown. Their biggest fear is getting in over their heads with a historic home that may have lots of hidden costs. Will they choose the 1920's cottage with lots of character but only one bathroom, the 1940s 'Dutch Door House' with the foundation issues, or the 1930s timeless brick Tudor with the hobbit-like front door? The Gaines have their work cut out for them with these historic wonders that are plagued with old age issues. Will the Purks' fears be realized when they face pricey repairs on their vintage fixer upper?

A Young Couple Hopes for a House with Old World Charm

Jeff and Sara Jones are Baylor sweethearts and newlyweds, returning to Waco to find a house where they can settle down and one day raise a family. Their all-in budget is $235,000 and they're hoping to find a house with three bedrooms, a big kitchen, and a big backyard in the Mountainview area. The first house they visit is the 'Beach House,' aptly named after the brightly painted surf-themed bedroom they find on the tour. Chip and Joanna bring the Joneses to 'The Schoolhouse' next. The Schoolhouse is much bigger and has a beautiful backyard, but is also more expensive, which would mean less flexibility in their renovation budget. Their last option is the 'Red Door House.' While the house isn't in the Mountainview area like they were hoping, Sara and Jeff are impressed by its character and curb appeal.
