How to Make a Wood Cutting Board

Materials and Tools:
hand saw
rag
1x10 x 3’ poplar wood
drill
tape measure
speed square
pencil
5/8” drill bit
butcher block oil
220-grit sanding block
Cut Wood
Measure and mark a 1x10 poplar wood piece at 16”. Use a speed square and pencil to make a straight line at the mark, and cut wood on the line using a hand saw.

Drill Hole
Measure and mark 1-1/2” from each side of one of the corners, making a plus sign. Using a 5/8” drill bit, drill a hole through the wood plank at the mark.

Sand Board
Lightly sand all corners and edges using a 220-Grit sanding block.

Apply Oil
Squeeze a liberal amount of butcher block oil onto a rag. Apply butcher block oil to all sides of the wood plank by rubbing thoroughly with the rag. Let dry overnight.
