New Season, New Designs

Host Christina Anstead is juggling life as a busy mom of three (including her newborn, Hudson!), a wife and lead of her own design business. After her maternity break, she's getting back to work and tackling new projects.

All in the Plan

Homeowners Anthony and Jenny have a home stuck in a decade past, and they're ready for a modern and more functional design in their kitchen, dining and living rooms. Christina walks them through the samples she's considering to create a timeless farmhouse feel.

Keep It in Reach

To open up the kitchen a bit, Christina suggests floating shelves next to the sink rather than an additional cabinet. Not only does it keep essentials handy, but it also brings warmth and style to the space.

Before: Too Dark Living Room

Shades of brown and gray leave this living room feeling flat and dreary. Even though the separating walls have cutouts, they still create a closed-off environment that feels dated.

After: Bright + White Living Room

Say goodbye to the wall separating the living and dining rooms for a more open layout. Layered rugs, pale woods and furnishings in light neutrals all combine for a casual contemporary style that looks pulled together yet lived-in.

Mixing Rustic + Contemporary Styles

Linear gray tiles laid in a herringbone pattern flow from floor to ceiling in this fireplace makeover. Clad with a natural wood mantel, the fireplace creates contrast to the all-white palette taking over the home's redesign.

Ready for Cocktail Time

A former pass-through is transformed into an ultra-chic bar, designed by Christina's husband, Ant. After closing in the back of the opening, floating glass shelves are offset to hold glassware. The custom, built-in cabinet houses all the bar necessities and under-lighting turns the piece into a showstopping feature.

Combine Varying Prints

Create a visually interesting bed by mixing together different patterns. By sticking to a calm, neutral palette, Christina is able to pull together stripes, graphics and even shaggy pillows for this bedroom makeover.

Before: Falling-Apart Bathroom

The bathroom hasn't been updated since the house was built, and more importantly, a lot of the fixtures don't even work anymore.

After: Indulgent Bathroom Retreat

A Shaker-style vanity is topped with pearly white quartz countertops that mimic the look of marble. Hexagon tiles run along the wall behind the new freestanding bathtub and flow around the vanity to make everything look more open and modern. For the flooring, Christina brings in vinyl that looks like real wood without the fear water damage.

Step Into a Spa-Like Shower

For the shower redo, Christina selects two tiles: penny round covers the floor and bench, while the walls are tiled in elongated hexagons laid vertically to emphasize the height of the ceilings.

Cozy Up to the Fireplace

Christina helps the homeowners Chris and Cara compromise on the fireplace by opting for floor-to-ceiling graphic cement tile that brings texture and life to the bedroom for her, and he gets a flat-screen TV to watch from the bed.

Before: Ready-for-an-Update Kitchen

The kitchen is original to the house, and Christina has a new layout in mind that will open the space. The only caveat is the homeowners Simon and Jetzabette have already bought their new appliances, so she'll be working around their sleek black purchases.

After: Oh-So-Chic Ebony Kitchen

Matte black cabinets make for a dramatic display, especially combined with the new appliances. Christina continues the bold, opulent look by using the marble from the countertops all the way up the walls.

After: Warm + Industrial Dining Room

So long, pass-through. An oversized island clad in waterfall marble countertops takes its place to give the homeowners tons of prep space. The dining room gets a nice refresh, as well, including island-height wainscoting. A custom-made light fixture by Ant is the true showstopper though.

Finding the Right Hardware

When Christina found out the homeowners had already purchased their appliances, she wanted to match the hardware with the appliance pulls. It took multiple days and stores, but it's all in a day's work for this designer.
