New parents Chris and Amy renovate a historic 1903 Detroit home once owned by Chris' great-grandparents. After completing a lead abatement, they take on the living room's chipping plaster and broken pocket doors.
Chris and Amy demolish the kitchen, transform a butler's pantry into a new breakfast nook and update the entire room with modern appliances and custom cabinetry. They also add an art deco powder room in an adjacent space.
Chris and Amy update the main suite with salvaged closet doors and an antique mantel. Then, they gut the bathroom and install a huge shower and reproduction subway tile. They also tuck a time capsule into the wall for a future generation to find.
Before their daughter starts crawling, Chris and Amy must rebuild her bathroom. They salvage the early 1900s tub and transform the bathroom into a charming space with custom wallpaper inspired by the original design.
Chris and Amy tackle some outdoor projects before winter sets in. They give the front porch a face lift and restore the crumbling, dangerous garage while keeping the original dormer intact.
Chris and Amy finish their journey by remodeling the piano room and foyer where his family once posed for their 1926 portrait. Everything comes full circle when they recreate the family portrait in front of the foyer's staircase.
