There are lots of folks following, with keen interest, the goings on at HGTV’s restoration of the ‘Brady Bunch’ house. Curiosity is running high with original Brady Bunch cast members joining up with HGTV show hosts like Property Brothers Drew and Jonathan Scott, and Leanne and Tom Ford of Restored by the Fords, as the real-life house gets transformed into a faithful replica of the house as seen in the ‘70s-era show. It's just naturally compelling to imagine how the real remodeled interiors will mimic those spaces burned into our collective (retro-TV) consciousness. But there’s a particular fan with a special connection for which all this excitement hits especially close to home — quite literally.

Kelsey McCallister is the granddaughter of the owner of the home used to depict the Brady household in the series’ exterior shots. (The interior scenes were all shot on a studio sound stage.) In a new Building Brady video titled “Family Memories”, Kelsey gets the chance to visit her grandmother’s former residence – with the renovation in progress – to get a first-hand look at how the real house is getting retrofitted to look faithfully and quintessentially “Brady”.

It’s a particularly poignant moment as Kelsey revisits the location and recounts early memories of playing hopscotch with her sister on the sidewalk in front of the house that, reputation has it, is the second most recognized home in America. (The most recognized is that one on Pennsylvania Avenue.) And we get insights on what it was like for fans to drive by to pay homage to the house that, in reality, sits tucked away in a Studio City suburb. (In fact, some fans even mistook Kelsey and her sister for Jan and Marsha!)

Kelsey recalls the feeling of watching The Brady Bunch on TV from inside “the Brady Bunch house”. When she walks through the actual front door and sees the interiors she remembers from her real childhood on their way to becoming the spaces she recalls vividly (like most of us) from the Brady TV universe, it’s a pretty extraordinary thing. “I have chills,” she says. And we believe her.

It's such a cool experience seeing my grandmother's house turned into this massive construction project that I know America is just going to love. It's going to bring back so many memories for all the fans.
