Why I Made the Switch From Towels to Bath Sheets
It's more expensive, but it's so worth it.
You don’t need a big renovation budget to create a spa-style bathroom at home. You just need a bath sheet. These oversized towels are the ultimate luxury bath accessory. A bath sheet instantly makes you feel as though you’re at a fancy beach resort or swanky hotel. They're more expensive than regular bath towels, but I’m here to tell you it’s worth every penny. Here’s why I upgraded my bath towels to bath sheets.
The word "sheet" is a little excessive. Bath sheets are not the size of bed sheets, but they are significantly larger than a standard bath towel. Regular towels measure anywhere from 26-30 inches by 52-56 inches whereas a bath sheet is 35-40 inches by 68-72 inches. And it’s not a beach towel in disguise; beach towels typically don’t have toweling, or terry cloth, on both sides, whereas bath sheets are the same material as a regular bath towel — just made in an XL size. There’s something incredibly calming about wrapping yourself up in all that extra towel material. It’s like being swaddled as an adult! Bath sheets are absolute game-changers in the winter when getting out of the shower feels like entering a frozen tundra. Self-care is different for everyone, but I’m pretty sure that a warm bath sheet fresh out of the dryer is universal.
Bath sheets are about $20 more expensive per towel than regular bath towels. The first bath sheet I ever tried was this $15 one from IKEA. It's great if you want to try out bath sheets without committing to a total overhaul. However, the material is thin and they needed to be replaced fairly quickly. If you’re ready for a towel upgrade, here are some of my favorite brands and styles.
Best Starter Bath Sheet
If you’re a bath sheet newbie, I say start with Parachute. I'm a big fan of their classic bath sheet. At $49, it’s on the more affordable side compared to other brands. If you tend to like the micro-fiber, quick-dry towels, you’ll love the soft rib version, and I think the Fouta Stripe Bath Sheet would be perfect as a chic pool towel.
Best Spa-Like Bath Sheet
Brooklinen has the most variety of bath sheets, from super-plush to ultralight to their brand new waffle sheets. (I cannot wait to get my hands on these smoke grey waffle bath sheets!) The classic Brooklinen bath sheet comes as close as you can get to that just-picked-up-from-the-pool-attendant vibe.
Best Plush Bath Sheet
There are towels, and then there are plush towels. Like bedding, these softer-than-soft varieties are typically made from premium Egyptian or Turkish cotton, and you won’t find a softer towel than Frontgate's. Both the Resort Cotton Bath Sheet and the Egyptian Cotton Bath Sheet are incredibly thick. I wouldn’t even call them bath sheets — they’re bath comforters. I could only fit one in my washer/dryer! That’s how fuzzy and plushy it is. And they’re heavy like a calming, weighted blanket for after the shower.
Best Organic Bath Sheet
If you’re looking for organic towels, Boll & Branch has two bath sheets that are 100-percent organic cotton. The plush version comes in a really pretty eucalyptus green that’s perfect for setting a serene, spa-like vibe.
