Sleep Outside

Designer Jamie Durie created his first-ever outdoor bedroom — in his own backyard. Jamie used Wooly Pockets to enclose the space with orchid-filled living walls. Hanging egg chairs provide a cozy nook for reading, while the mattress is the ideal spot for an afternoon nap.

An Outdoor Home With History

Lush and enchanting, this Victorian-inspired space feels like it's been here almost as long as the 19th-century home it's a part of. This fireplace is the heart of the outdoor living room, with soft hammocks in front for lazy lounging. Designer Heather Lenkin used a muted gray arbor to define the space. Landscape-Inspired Patio

This lavish Palm Springs patio featured on HGTV's Million Dollar Rooms draws inspiration from its surroundings. The curved roofline and sofa emulate the rise and fall of the mountain range, while the muted color scheme melds seamlessly with the view.

Elevate Your Garden

To ensure that this room's spectacular plantings took center stage, designer Jamie Durie brought them up to eye level using a lush living wall in place of a typical privacy fence. Nearby, an oversized iron planter houses a collection of multicolored succulents.

The Buddha is not only the focal point of this space, it's also designer Jamie Durie's source of inspiration for this relaxing, Asian-themed room. A hanging daybed provides a place for the family to lounge, while a nearby bench adds ample seating for visitors.

Outdoor Workspace

To create the dramatic arbor that shades this outdoor library and office space, designer Jamie Durie cut steel ribs into an arch shape and covered the steel with wooden slats. Curtains made from heavy outdoor fabric keep books dry in the rain.

A Gazebo Fit for Stargazing

The macrame "roof" on this backyard gazebo allows ample light to filter through. Look up and it's also a focal point, creating a unique "spider-web" pattern that's studded with lush hanging baskets.

Designer Linda Woodrum created this entertainment deck to take full advantage of the breathtaking mountain views from the 2012 HGTV Dream Home. Muted colors complement rather than compete with the view, and the gas fire pit provides a dramatic focal point after dark.

Garden Romance

A patinaed metal arbor on one side and a thick patch of bamboo on the other transforms this concrete patio into a private outdoor room. Designer Sandy Koepke creates multi-tiered interest with outdoor chandeliers made from candles and hanging plants. Mismatched chairs and antique lanterns complete the romantic look. Modern and Minimal

Inspired by a vertical garden in Atlanta, designer Jamie Durie created two living walls in this lush, green dining area. Jamie layered plant pockets filled with herbs, lettuces and more edible plants on green-stained slats to make the room look like one big living wall.
