3 Gardening Podcasts to Get You Through the Slow Season

I’ll admit, I was slow to join the podcast train, but when I found out there were whole podcasts devoted to gardening, I was hooked. Margaret Roach’s “A Way to Garden” was my first. Now, I’m a devoted listener of three regular podcasts that dig deep enough into gardening and plant topics to satisfy a nerd like me. If you, too, love gardening AND podcasts, I promise you’ll love listening to these. 

A Way to Garden

Margaret Roach, former editorial director at Martha Stewart, ditched the corporate job and city life to garden in the Berkshires nearly a decade ago, and since then, she’s written a popular blog and several books on gardening, rural life and finding balance. Her companion podcast includes interviews with horticultural experts and runs the gamut of gardening topics, from edible to ornamental. 

Encyclopedia Botanica

Started by the hands-on gardeners at Seattle Urban Farm Co., an edible landscaping company in Washington, the Encyclopedia Botanica podcast features gardening expert Hilary Dahl and Seattle Farm School director Kellie Phelan. The two focus on practical advice for beginning gardeners, primarily those living in urban areas. Often, Kellie interviews Hilary, but sometimes, the two interview a guest from the larger gardening world. Though I've yet to join in, a companion Slack group has fostered an active community around this podcast where listeners can ask and answer gardening questions.

Living Homegrown

Gardening and preserving expert Theresa Loe is the woman behind this website and podcast dedicated to using the homegrown harvest and general sustainable lifestyle advice. Theresa’s background in TV production lends a high quality level to this podcast, but the real value of Living Homegrown lies in the loads of practical advice for anyone looking to translate their love of gardening into a whole lifestyle.
