Gather Your Supplies
For this craft you will need: mini pumpkins/ small shepherds hooks/ sharp knives/ scooping spoon/ drill/ garden twine/ flameless tealight candles/ scissors
Remove the Lid
With a sharp knife, cut around the entire top of the pumpkin on an angle to make the lid. If kids are helping, save this step for the grown-ups.
Remove the Innards
With a spoon, scrape and scoop out all the innards.
Ready for Carving
This mini pumpkin is all clean and ready for carving.
Make a Face
With a pen or pencil draw on the face you would like to carve, or you can carve free hand. Begin to carefully carve out the face. This is another grown-up job.
Teeth Trick
Keep those pumpkin teeth safe and cut out small wedges from the mouth. This helps to ensure the teeth are not damaged when the bits of pumpkin are removed.
Tidy Up
With a sharp knife, go in and tidy up any bits of pumpkin or strands of pumpkin that are blocking the eyes and mouth.
Add Twine
To make the twine hangers, cut a piece of twine for each pumpkin approximately 10 inches long.
Drill It
Drill two holes, on on each side of the pumpkin.
Thread the Twine
Thread the twine through the hole on one side of the pumpkin.
Tie a Knot
Knot the end of the twine.
Pull the Twine
Pull the twine gently so the knot touches the inside of the pumpkin wall. Repeat this on the other side of the pumpkin.
Light it Up
Because these are small pumpkins, only use flameless tealights instead of candles. This is a fire safety measure.
Completed Lantern
Return the lid to the top of each mini carved pumpkin. They are now ready to add to the shepherds hooks.
All Aglow
These little lanterns light the way on the pathway.
Greet Trick or Treaters
Try treating your trick or treaters with these mini pumpkin lanterns by lining the front walkway with them. Or make two to flank the doorway entrance.
