Midcentury Kitchen

A soothing palette of brown and beige give this galley kitchen a new look.

From: Design on a Dime

This kitchen is transformed into a warm space with earthtone colors and interesting textures that bring out the best in this small space.

Before, this all-white kitchen was crowded and didn't have a bit of style. The kitchen was given the designer treatment with a Mid-Century modern flair that includes neutral colors, rolling storage and 3-D tile art.

The walls are painted light beige to begin the makeover while a modern table and chair set reinforce the Mid-Century look the couple favors. Art over the dining table comes courtesy of small tile refrigerator magnets. Added accessories include a floor runner, glass jars and vases.

The designers leave space above the dining table for wood risers with larger tiles for a floating, 3-D effect. This incorporates shelves to hold interesting vases. They also create a square tiled backsplash for the wall behind the range.

The team transforms the white cabinet doors with chocolate-brown paint and sea-grass wallpaper, which is adhered to the inset of each cabinet door.

The designers bring in more storage with a cabinet on wheels. A butcher-block top and sea-grass wallpaper on the sides tie it in with the rest of the cabinetry. Drawer knobs secured to the side hold cooking utensils and kitchen towels.

Curtains are hung in the doorway to separate the kitchen from the laundry room, and natural wood blinds are a clean-lined, contemporary alternative to curtains on the window.
