Casual and Friendly Kitchen with Dark Blue Cabinets

Rustic elements like open wood shelving and blue subway tile make this kitchen feel casual and friendly. The dark blue cabinets are a pretty way to add depth and richness to the space.

Argyle

This homeowner's love for color is evident in their eye-catching kitchen. The wood floor has been painted blue and green with an argyle pattern. A red kitchen island and blue double ovens accent the space. In the back of the bookcases, wallpaper has been applied to add more color to the space. The shelves are dotted with colorful pots, pans and dishes for easy access as well as decoration.

Peachy-Keen Cottage Kitchen

Although salmon isn't typically a color that comes to mind for modern kitchens, designer Judy O'Neil Labins chose it for just that reason: she wanted a color that was warm, cheery and had just the right amount of vintage charm for her cottage-style kitchen.

Pumpkin Spice

One glance around this happy kitchen will reveal splashes of vibrant color. But the focal point? Pumpkin orange lampshades above the island draw the eye up and balance the bright blue bar chairs.

Green With Envy

Green cabinets feature beautiful brass hardware in this galley kitchen. The deep color is offset by a beautiful peachy-orange rug underfoot.

Crazy for Cranberry

For a play on warm and cool tones, the cabinets were covered with a rich red paint that contrasts with the cool shade of blue-grey on the surrounding walls. When pairing reds, whites and blues, choose unexpected tones to prevent a thematic look.

Bold Blue Backsplash

The bold, blue and white backsplash is the focal point in this modern kitchen. A chef's oven with stainless steel hood range is flanked by white cabinets with brass hardware, complemented by a brass-toned faucet at the quartz kitchen island with a farmhouse sink.

Pick a Plum

The fun, young family who live in this home wanted an open kitchen with a lot of light and space where they could gather together and entertain. For a colorful surprise, the designers created an island with a rich eggplant finish accented with brass details.

Rhapsody in Blue

A long vintage area rug placed over this kitchen’s handsome Latte Oak hardwood floor grounds the robin's egg blue cabinetry.

Let the Sunshine In

This lovely kitchen features charming farmhouse-style details like a sweet dutch door and farmhouse sink. Cheery yellow in just the right places adds a sprinkle of sunshine.

Matte Black

This white kitchen is visually grounded by a stunning black range hood, stove and ceiling that gorgeously contrast a sturdy wood island made from burl wood.

Eucalyptus

This kitchen's expansive center island offers both seating and counter space for preparing meals and relaxing in the eucalyptus-green chairs. Beams in the ceiling that run from the back of the kitchen through the front of the home add a nice architectural feature for the open floor plan.

Red, White & Trendy

In the kitchen, large windows and French doors with oversized transoms allow plenty of natural light into the kitchen, making the space feel bright and open. The white walls that anchor the space reflect the light, continuing the open design. To add warmth and color, red and white patterns were introduced into the space, creating a classic, space that is light and casual.

Minty Fresh

The natural wood of the pendant cage is nicely set off by the more modern, matte finish of the mint kitchen cabinets in this perfect blend of Color Form elements.

Fresh-Squeezed Lemonade

It's true that yellow is an energetic, eye-catching hue that can easily uplift moods and inspire, especially in the kitchen. In this casual family kitchen, yellow is only seen along the upper half of the walls and in the island light fixtures. However, the playful color scheme is undeniably the first thing noticed. The yellow, mixed with white cabinets, coffered ceilings and a soft backsplash, emits an airy feel that would make anyone feel right at home. Image courtesy of JAS Design Build

Smoky Sophistication

As any fan of her shows can attest, designer Sarah Richardson certainly isn't shy of bold colors — but she's equally adept at creating a high-end space using a softer, neutral palette. To update this formerly cookie-cutter suburban kitchen, Sarah used shades of gray in the island, honed granite countertops, fabrics and Carrara marble mosaic backsplash.

Color Play

Bold blue cabinets give this colorful, modern kitchen vibrancy, paired with a chartreuse double-hung door. The large kitchen island doubles as the perfect place to enjoy a meal together with four metal seats in mint green and vintage glass pendant lights above.

A Scoop of Vanilla

Designer Gail Drury combined traditional sage-green accents and ivory cabinets, along with contemporary materials and conveniences, to bring an updated look and feel to this charming bungalow home. An eclectic mix of wood finishes in the island and barstools further add to the kitchen's old-fashioned appeal.

Pattern Play

A beautiful white oak island pops against a colorful patterned wall in this designer's cook space. For the family chef, it’s the ideal setup: He can chat face-to-face with diners while he whips up a meal.

Look Up

This tiny black and white kitchen designed by Kim Lewis Designs is nine feet wide, but feels larger thanks to the painted ceiling and matching backsplash. The countertops are by Silestone, lights by CB2 and tile by Daltile.

Fiesta

Colorful Fiestaware adds pops of color to this white country kitchen. A red Roman shade matches a red stove. There's a cozy bit of clutter to make you feel at home.

The Recipe for a Balanced Look

A colorful kitchen doesn't necessarily require look-at-me cabinets or a bold backsplash; instead, color can be added in small doses for a more balanced look. Here, designer DD Allen creates a peaceful backdrop with soft grays then brings in lots of kicky colors with the kitchen's accessories, furniture and artwork.

Fiery Orange

Designer Robin Siegerman chose the upper cabinets' intense hue for its mood-lifting qualities. Studies have shown that the color orange stimulates optimism and a positive outlook. Considering most of us spend a little time each morning in the kitchen, starting each day with a cheery outlook is ideal.

Bright, White and Buttery

Designer extraordinaire, Sarah Richardson, breathed new life into her 1885 farmhouse with this bright and airy kitchen. White wall cabinets offer plenty of storage space and act as a clean backdrop to the kitchen's real star: the massive butter-yellow island that features a charming salvaged newel post at the corner of the bar. Rather than restaining the 130-year-old hardwoods, Sarah chose to simply strip then protect them with a clear coat so the wood's natural golden tone would show through.

Sunny Yellow

John and Anthony, the Kitchen Cousins, relied on the perennially popular color combo of yellow and gray for this kitchen remodel. Sleek, laminate cabinets in a bright and cheery hue pair beautifully with the cook space's stainless steel appliances and island countertop.
