As one of the most popular of countertop choices, granite is also a classic choice for homeowners who are choosing a kitchen island design. Even though it can be pricey, granite is heat- and scratch-resistant, making it a durable kitchen island choice.
Granite comes in a range of colors, including creamy white and deep gray textured designs. The lighter hues of granite often pair well with dark island cabinetry and shelving, such as black paneling or deep cherry wood. On the other hand, a dark gray or black granite will create a dramatic effect when placed atop a white or light-colored wood unit.
Because granite is often expensive, many homeowners will choose less costly surfaces when designing their kitchen islands. Many wholesale companies will sell granite remnants at a cheaper price, making it a viable option for a kitchen island surface.
