Jack-and-Jill bathroom layouts are intended for use as kid-friendly bathrooms by one or more children in the home. For this reason, Jack-and-Jill bathrooms can be difficult to design, especially if they're used by multiple children of different genders.

Bathroom Design

Learn about finding the right design for your bathroom renovation.

One of the keys to creating a Jack-and-Jill bathroom layout that works for everyone is to create designated bathroom storage spaces for each user. This way, toiletries and other accessories shouldn't go missing, and each user will feel like he or she has ownership of a personal space in the bathroom.

Once you've decided on a layout that will work for all users, it's time to design. In general, for a shared space, a somewhat neutral design is best, but that doesn't mean you can't employ broad themes or approaches (like stripes or patterns for walls or accessories). When designing the shared space, you may also want to allow each child to have some input—so for example, let one choose a soap dish, and the other a shower curtain.

Another element to consider in Jack-and-Jill bathroom is privacy. If there are multiple users for the space, you may want to install separate spaces or rooms for the shower and toilet, so that the entirety of the space is truly multifunctional.
