So, what do you need to know to make the most of this year’s Prime Day? Consider these 10 tips your insider's guide to nabbing the best deals.

You must be a prime member. Think of Prime Day like an exclusive club — if you aren’t a member, you’re stuck outside the velvet rope. But, great news: joining is easy! You can even sign up for a 30-day free trial to enjoy the many, many benefits of being a Prime member (including, of course, shopping Prime Day).

Amazon pre-games the main event with Prime Day countdown deals. Officially, Prime Day begins at 3 p.m. ET on 7/16 and continues all day on 7/17 — but — select items are already on sale with new Deals of the Day featuring some of Amazon’s lowest prices of the year on everything from fashion must-haves to furniture and home goods and the latest tech.

You can get a Prime Day sneak peek. Download the Amazon app for the easiest way to keep an eye on the deals you’re coveting. Best of all, the app will even notify you when items you’ve selected go on sale. Make sure you're in the know; follow these instructions to turn on notifications.

This year’s Prime Day will be primo. Spanning 36 hours, 2018’s Prime Day (and a half) will be the longest in history, offering up more than one million deals worldwide. New this year are Prime Day Launches – diverse categories of fresh-to-market goodies that are exclusive to Amazon and will be available only to Prime members for a limited time.

Techies, This Prime Day’s for you. Prime members will enjoy the biggest deals to date on Alexa-enabled products including Amazon Echo, Fire TV and Fire tablets so, if giving your abode a smart-home update has been on your to-do list, Prime Day will help you check it off. And, deals on tech have already begun, with $100 off the popular Echo Show.

Alexa can help you shop. If you’re one of the millions who already rely on Amazon’s virtual assistant, Alexa, to stream your favorite tunes, get recipe recommendations, check the weather or send hands-free text messages, then you know how handy she can be but did you know Alexa can also help Prime members score primo deals? Well, now you do. Technology is pretty great, right?!

Stock up now for Christmas … in July. Every seasoned shopper knows that you should pounce when the price is right. With price reductions of up to 50 percent off apparel for men, women and kids, including special deals on Amazon’s private label brands Goodthreads and Core10, Prime Day is the time to stock up.

Treat yo’self. But, the savings don’t stop with gifts for friends and family, give your home a refresh and *finally* retire that tired old sofa (or lamp or desk or rug) with major savings on Amazon’s exclusive home brands Rivet, for mid-mod fans, and Stone & Beam: family-friendly pieces that are timelessly on-trend.

And, stock your fridge for less. Also new this year, Prime members will enjoy bonus savings when shopping at Whole Foods Market on Prime Day as all stores in the popular organic chain will feature deep discounts on select popular products plus Whole Foods shoppers will score $10 in Amazon credit to use on Prime Day when they spend $10 in store. Learn more, plus get our editor's tips for linking your Prime account so you save every time you shop.

Prime Day = Par-tay. Finally, Prime Day 2018 won't just be a savings celebration, it'll also be an actual party as giant smile boxes will be popping up in major cities around the world. Lucky folks in NYC, LA, London, Tokyo and Milan will be treated to live performances by top talent, like Ariana Grande, Kelsea Ballerini and Take That. Can't make it to the event? Join the celebration on July 14th and 15th from anywhere.
