Here's the Story

Family reunion meets fantasy home makeover in A Very Brady Renovation, a four-part series on HGTV. It was a huge undertaking, to say the least: A star-studded crew transformed the house seen in the exterior shots of The Brady Bunch into an exact duplicate of the set where the sitcom was filmed. “The toughest part was adding a second story to the house, though it was fun to teach those Bradys construction!” says Jasmine Roth. They pulled it off in style…’ 70s style, that is. Take a look at what went into America’s most anticipated reno. Here's the famous home in North Hollywood, CA, as it looked when HGTV bought it last summer.

The Reno Bunch

HGTV paired eight of its hosts with the six actors who starred as the kids on The Brady Bunch to re-create their TV home in all its retro glory. Above, from left: Jasmine Roth, Karen E Laine, Mina Starsiak, Susan Olsen (Cindy), Mike Lookinland (Bobby), Eve Plumb (Jan), Christopher Knight (Peter), Maureen McCormick (Marcia), Barry Williams (Greg), Leanne Ford, Steve Ford, Lara Spencer, Jonathan Scott and Drew Scott.

The Reno

Re-creating a design icon is a tall order. “You have no idea how many mock-ups we did to get the staircase right,” says Jonathan Scott. Adds Maureen McCormick, “The first time I walked in the front door and saw it finished, it brought back so many memories.

On-site Fun

Sometimes contractors need a pick-me-up. “After Jasmine Roth told me she couldn’t carry a tune, I decided she had to try a Brady one,” says Barry Williams. Cue “It’s a Sunshine Day,” complete with choreography.

The Backyard

“The best part of building the seesaw for the backyard was testing it out,” says Mina Starsiak with her forever reno partner, mom Karen E Laine. A Brady may or may not have toppled off in the process.

The Exterior

Jonathan Scott, Maureen McCormick, Christopher Knight and Drew Scott, all set to paint the front doors. “Those brothers are always well-dressed,” says Christopher. “My clothes got gross but it’s like dirt doesn’t fall on them.”

The Kitchen

“I feel like I won the lottery getting to work on the kitchen, which I always loved,” says Leanne Ford. Because she uses vintage pieces in her own projects, she had no problem rounding up mid-century chairs for the table. She and Eve Plumb painted them avocado green and had an upholsterer make the orange seat cushions.

Alice's Room

Steve Ford and Eve Plumb demo’ing the room that would morph into one just like housekeeper Alice had. “The great thing about knocking things down is that we couldn’t mess up too badly,” says Eve.
