42 Outdoor Halloween Decorations to Create the Creepiest Yard on the Block
Get in the spirit and give your neighbors something to talk about with these thrilling Halloween outdoor decorations.
There's a distinct chill in the air, the ghosts and ghouls have come out to play and Halloween is on the way! Get in the spirit and create the creepiest (or chicest) yard on the block with some thrilling outdoor Halloween decorations. Below, we share all of our favorite themes — from gorgeous enchanted forests to giant arachnid attacks — and reveal exactly which pieces will help you pull them off. Happy haunting!
Enchanted Forest
Who could possibly resist an enchanted forest? Lure trick-or-treaters to your door with pre-lit spooky trees, black crows and flashing eyes hidden in the hedges. They'll know they're on the right track to candy when they pass the grinning jack-o'-lanterns and make it to the flying bats light-up doormat!
Wicked Witch's Cottage
Charm the entire neighborhood by transforming your home into a witch's cottage. All you need is a circle of crones, a bubbling cauldron and an all-seeing doorbell to evoke thoughts of Hocus Pocus. (But you can certainly dial up the magic with floating hats, witch feet stakes and a large "Broom Parking Only" sign.)
Arachnid Attack
Give your neighbors the heebie-jeebies in a big way this year by covering your home in giant spiders. Stretch an oversized triangular web over your porch or garage, then wrap your bushes, banisters and columns with faux cobwebs. Complete the creepy-crawlie display with fuzzy spiders and an oh-so-fitting "EEK!" outdoor light.
Grim Graveyard
Summon all the spirits (er — children) to your door this Halloween by creating your own "Grim Graveyard." Use faux tombstones to designate the cemetery, then fill that dead space with bones, posable skeletons and clawing zombie hand silhouettes. If it were up to us, we'd splurge on either the "Enter If You Dare" luminaries or that "Beware" tombstone.
Haunted Mansion
When in doubt, decorate your home like a haunted mansion. Cover the windows with tattered black fabric, flank the front door with Gothic urns and style the rest of your outdoor space with peculiar finds, like vampire bat wall hangings and an animated Victorian telephone. And of course, finish everything off with a "Foolish Mortals" doormat.
Ghost Infestation
If this spirited display doesn't make your neighbors want to call the Ghostbusters, we don't know what will. Dress your home for Halloween (and delight trick-or-treaters) with inflatable Slimers, Marshmallow Men and silly specters. To keep the look light and fun, add playful props like a juggling ghost neon light and smiling ghost pathway lights.
